A Simple Reason

You don’t need to earn the right to feel okay . . .
Reflections
A Simple Reason is a short poem about happiness and self-worth. As life becomes more complicated and more is demanded of us, many of us begin to believe we need a justification for our existence. We tell ourselves we will finally allow ourselves to be happy once we achieve more, correct our flaws, heal ourselves, or become more certain about where we are going.
This poem pushes back against that way of thinking. It suggests a gentler approach: our existence already has value. Even in times of confusion, exhaustion, or disappointment, life is still unfolding around us and there are opportunities to appreciate and enjoy the moment. The line about “the rose” and “the thorn” reflects the reality that joy and pain are both part of life and often exist side by side. Being alive is reason enough to keep moving forward.
Question for you
Do you find it helpful to be reminded that happiness does not need to be earned?
Affirmation
I deserve happiness simply because I exist. I do not need to earn it.
