The Less I Expect

Not everything you do will be seen or rewarded—
that doesn’t mean it has no value
Reflections
The Less I Expect is a short poem about mental health and letting go of expectations. It begins with a common experience—doing your best and not getting the result or response you hoped for. The image of searching for treasure in the sand and finding only a fistful of seaweed leads to the idea of not letting disappointment interfere with inner peace.
We can’t control outcomes, yet we can, to a large extent, control the feelings we associate with them. There’s a kind of freedom in releasing the need for recognition and accepting that not everything meaningful gets noticed. The work still matters. The effort still counts. And sometimes, the peace you walk away with is more valuable than the outcome you hoped to achieve.
Question for you
When something you do with intention doesn’t get the result or response you hoped for, how do you cope?
Affirmation
I can do my best and let go of the outcome. My effort has value, even when it goes unseen or unrewarded.

Am I mistaken, or is this Michael's first venture into rhymed couplets? Regardless, as with ALL of his other postings, his work possesses meaning and resonance in simple words that go deep.
